Annual BLUS BBQ

Summer is getting closer and the end of the semester is just around the corner. As every year we will celebrate the last BLUS night of the semester by having a BBQ in Ørstedsparken :-)

BLUS will provide the barbeques, salad, bread, plates, and cutlery/flatware, so you just have to bring meat for the grill and drinks! We’ll hang out in Ørstedsparken for a couple of hours and then head down to Studenterhuset and continue the debauchery!

This event takes place on Tuesday 23 June at 18:00 and is free for BLUS members. All others are also welcome to join for 20 kroners.

IMPORTANT: Sign-up is mandatory and MUST be done here no later than Tuesday 16 June. Non-members should transfer the 20 kroner fee to this account:

Reg no. 0400
Account no. 4013663691

(when signing up, please remember to use the exact same name as on your account)

Ditte Dyreborg returns to BLUS!

Quite commonly only two sexes are known to man and due to the hetero-normative doctrine accepted exclusively as such in the constructed society. However, in between these two sexes, called the border sexes, an enormous variety of different sexes exist. People in between the border sexes belong to the group of the intersexed. Intersexed or Middlesexed as it can also be referred to as are individuals who are neither entirely males nor females or they are both sexes in a combination. Previously intersex used to be referred to as hermaphroditism. Today the notions Intersex or Hermaproditism are no longer used by medical science to describe humans that are. Instead, the notion DSD (Disorders of Sex Development) has been invented and is now widespread being accepted by the medical science in the field as the singular choice of use for describing intersex individuals. What is intersex and how or why does it occur? How far back in time has it been known? Moreover, how is it being dealt with on and after the discovery?

Ditte Dyreborg who is an intersex individual i.e. a hermaphrodite and an advocate on the subject performs the lecture that takes place on Tuesday 12 May at 20:00 in the Red Room of Studenterhuset. DON’T MISS IT! (event on Facebook)

(translation of the below message available upon request)

IntroNational night!

BLUS would like to welcome new international LGBT students to Copenhagen and introduce them to BLUS and LGBT Copenhagen! We’ll do this on Tuesday (10 February) at 19:00 (7pm) at Studenterhuset. So, if you’re an international student in Copenhagen and new to BLUS and the LGBT scene, drop by for an informal introduction and chat with both Danes and other international students. At 20:00 (8pm) there’ll be a talk/performance (see calendar for details), and after that we’ll take a stroll around Copenhagen and show you some of the best LGBT spots. Don’t miss this chance to meet other LGBT students and get familiar with BLUS and the rest of LGBT Copenhagen!

Queer Talks

In the coming months BLUS will be hosting a number of talks and workshops on queer theory, gender and sexuality issues, bringing these topics into discussion in the student environment and raising awareness about issues that concern us all. The talks are kicked off on Tuesday the 3rd of February with an introduction to queer theory giving everyone a basic knowledge which we will continue to build on throughout the spring.

We will be adding more exciting items to the program soon, and the details of the individual events can be found in the calendar.

BLUS is back!

Most of us are either cramming for exams or taking a well-deserved break from school these days. So what’s going on at BLUS? Studenterhuset is open again, so as always Tuesdays nights are BLUS nights again. Over the next couple of weeks we will be adding new and exciting events (Queer Theory lectures, Stop AIDS night, spring party, AGM, etc.) to the calendar, but we would love to have new (or old) people volunteer to help us out. If you have ideas or suggestions for Tuesday night events, or if you would like to help out at the bar, during events, arranging parties, etc. please make a comment to this post or drop us a line.

In other exciting news, BLUS will be present at the DIS Immerse Yourself Fair tomorrow afternoon to welcome new DIS students to Copenhagen. They of course also need a warm BLUS welcome to Studenterhuset, so come have a beer with us tomorrow night :-)

Bye bye 2008 – See you in 2009!

The year is coming to an end and we would like to thank everyone for making it such a great one! Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with parties, events, etc. We couldn’t have done it without you! We’ve had so many entertaining, educational, drunk, and just plain fun Tuesday nights during 2008. We’ll be taking a short break for the next couple of weeks to celebrate the holidays with our families, but then we’ll be back in 2009 for another exciting year of BLUS craziness – keep checking the calendar and watch out for our newsletters!

From all of us at BLUS:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – Glædelig jul og godt nytår!

Julestue at BLUS

This Tuesday at BLUS is “Julestue” – an old Danish Christmas tradition for which the entire family gathers to consume large quantites of æbleskiver, pebernødder and glögg while making decorative cut ‘n’ paste Christmas decorations such as hearts, stars, and garlands. Take a break from exams and drop by to warm up to next week’s Christmas party – and invite a couple of your 743 Facebook friends to a night of Christmassy BLUS hygge :-)

Speaking of Christmas party – don’t forget to sign up no later than tomorrow!
