Gender Queer University: Questioning Norms in Higher Education

Are you interested in exploring the concept of Queer? Do you question gender norms and heteronormativity? Would you like to dig deeper into these issues at the level of higher education? Then PLEASE read on :-) Our good friends at ANSO are hosting an exciting study session in Strassbourg in March:

ANSO, Association of Nordic and Pol-Balt Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Student (LGBTQ) Organizations would like to invite you to a study session called Gender Queer University: Questioning Norms in Higher Education, with the aim of creating knowledge and tools for working with gender, gender identity and gender expression in higher education.

The session takes place from 14 to 21 March. We would like to hear from anyone who’s interested in going.  Note that all travels expenses are covered. The original call for participants can be found here.

Kissing Against Homophobia

On Thursday 26th of November a group of LGBTQ activists will be kissing against the Lithuanian government and their homophobic legislation through a public kiss-in in front of the parliament.

The public kissing is organized as a demonstration against the state homophobia which is violating the human rights of LGBTQ people in Lithuania. The event was organized by ANSO – Association of Nordic and Pol-Balt LGBTQ Student Organizations, in cooperation with Lithuanian LGBTQ activists.

Lithuania has long been known as one of the most homophobic and biphobic countries in Europe but the situation will get dramatically worse when the new legislation for The Law on the Protection of Minors against Detrimental Effect of Public Information comes into effect in March 2010.

Genderbending Our Utopia!

The Association of Nordic LGBTQ Student Organizations (ANSO), of which BLUS is one of the founding members, calls for participants for their annual conference in Stockholm! Six members of BLUS will be allowed to participate. You can read more about the conference in the original call and you can also check out the draft program for the conference. If you are interested in participating, we need your application (use form in call) no later than 10 July 2009. Applications should be emailed to applications (at) blus.dk. If you have questions, you can also send them to this address.
